The disadvantages of Twitter’s new 280-character limit

Twitter's new character limit

Most people will have been happy to hear that Twitter has started rolling out a new 280-character limit to selected users in recent weeks but not me and I don’t believe businesses in the food, drink and hospitality industry should either.

How does the old saying go? Less is more?

The 140 character limit is what makes Twitter so special! Taking that away is like having a Full English without the bacon!

I’ve seen some arguments suggesting having more characters will give marketers and businesses more chance to get their message across but I strongly believe that it is a skill to craft tweets into 140 characters and that trait could soon be deemed useless.

Twitter is built on the foundations of short, snappy and concise snippets of text. I don’t know about you but that’s what attracts me to the social platform on a daily and even hourly basis.

If I wanted to see anything more I’d log into Facebook. Is that what Twitter is about to turn into? I wouldn’t be surprised.

Whether you agree with me or not, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject!
