87Food Lunch Club: Piazza Italia

Our 87Food Lunch Club was an unusual one this month…

Scott and Hayley couldn’t make it, but that didn’t stop myself (Adam) and Jordan heading out with both of us celebrating our birthdays in early August. Not only that but we had a special guest too… Marley!

We opted to go to Piazza Italia, a traditional Italian restaurant located in the heart of Blackpool on the quaint cobbled street of Cedar Square, opposite the Winter Gardens. Serving freshly prepared dishes using locally sourced ingredients and genuine imported products to make their dishes authentically Italian, we couldn’t wait to get started!

Here’s what we thought…

The first thing I noticed when I looked at the lunch menu was how reasonably priced it was, with starters at £4 and pizza/pasta at just £5.95!

I ordered the Calamari Fritti to start and having never tried it before I was intrigued. I’m glad to report it didn’t disappoint, with the tartare sauce a perfect accompaniment. For my main I went for the salami pizza.

I’m going to make a big statement now but I think it was the best pizza I’ve ever had. I often find when you get salami on a pizza that it’s either undercooked or burnt to a crisp but not this. It was cooked to perfection.

The texture and flavours were spot on. I even felt like I was in Italy for a moment… It was the perfect lunch to celebrate my birthday.

I had never been to Piazza Italia before, but I have passed it several times. I am a fan of Italian food so I was looking forward to trying it.

When I arrived, I thought the restaurant was cosy, traditional and very ‘Italian’ but smaller than I expected. The waiter came over to our table after a couple of minutes and took an order for drinks. Once the drinks arrived, I placed my order for two courses from the lunch menu. I chose garlic bread with cheese for my starter and spaghetti bolognese for my main course.

When the starter arrived, I was impressed by the size of the garlic pizza bread. It looked delicious and it was! The only down side was the edges without cheese were a little plain. When my main course arrived, my first thoughts were that the portion was small, but it definitely filled me up. The spaghetti bolognese was tasty and hot.

I would visit this restaurant again but next time I would try the salami pizza, Adam had this for his main course and it looked really good.

That was our July 87Food Lunch Club but we’d love to visit your restaurant or cafe in August! Give us a call on 01253 462 487.
